The water bill came! The water bill came!
Yes, I am shouting and repeating myself. But guess what! Come on guess! Well you’ll never guess so I’ll just tell you.
Our water usage dropped by 50%. That is right — 50%! That puts us at 15% of the American average for water.

Hi Kim, I just came here by way of Mustard Seed Journal, then realized you’ve commented on my blog before. Not sure I realized you were in IN also! Anyway, just reading through the past few posts and enjoyed hearing about someone who is further along in the process than we are. Good to see you’re a Wendell Berry fan too; he is a wise wise man. Just wanted to say hello. Isn’t this weather something? At least the nights are clear; the stars seem so much brighter and more crisp when it’s 4 degrees!
My god - I had to read that a few times to be sure of what I was seeing. We haven’t even STARTED on water consumption yet, and now I feel guilty… wonderful blog, just been reading a few backposts and adding you to my blogroll. Stop on by sometime, you hear? - HWz
Rachel,
It’s good to see you here. I love Pea from Mustard Seed Journal. She is inspiring and one person I wish I knew in real life. I see that you have been posting again. Good. I liked reading about your endeavors.
We’re way down here in the southeastern corner of the state. I agree about the weather. Cold!
Hedgewizard, Thanks for stopping by. I’ll zip over and say hi in a bit.
Kim
That’s wonderful! And very inspiring. Good job.
Ours just came and I was relieved to see it didn’t shoot up despite the frozen water line during our Christmas vacation. I heard secondhand yesterday that a neighbor around the corner wanted the homeowner’s phone number so he could call her next time he saw water sluicing off her roof. Um, if he saw this, why didn’t he do what our postman did later in the day? Turned off our water at the main valve at the street. I’d rather have my postman as my neighbor…
Congratulations on such a reduction. It is the simple little things that make a difference, but it is still a choice you have to make. PS love your blog, and I also have the gaia’s garden book and love it.
