Low Impact Week Begins
June 1, 2007
I cannot believe it is already June 1. I swear someone has been messing with my calendar. I’m not ready.
This morning we took a meter reading, cooked on the camp stove, planned meals around the wood burning grill, and turned off the hot water heater. We’ll turn it on at 6 am and back off by 7:30.
How’s everyone else feeling about turning the page on the calendar?

Hi KMH! Nice to see a fellow Hoosier and former E-villian on the path! My husband and I have a tiny bit of land in Perry County where we hope to homestead some day. Good luck with Low Impact Week.

We’re approaching the end of the second day and I swear that I too am not ready. I quickly turned our hot water back on tonight when I noticed the kids’ bath was a bit cool! I had turned it off 3 days ago to see how long it would take to cool down…now I’ll see how long it takes to warm up again.
I spent most of the last couple of hours trying to figure out a spreadsheet to keep track of my family’s consumption of stuff, only to discover one at yahoogroups. Oh, how the excitement was stifled when I discovered I couldn’t open the file because me computer doesn’t recognise. I’d greatly appreciate you dropping me a line to advise what the program is.
Hey, I really like your site. It stands out from the many others that are around. Good one – I’ll add it to my blogroll.
Until next time.

We did okay the first few days, but (chuckle) the weirdest things happened the day after that. For ONE thing, I got sick, or lazy, or lazy sick and couldn’t make dinner one night so asked Em to get us some KFC. He’d been craving some fried chicken because he sees it cooked where he works so decided to go to Grandy’s for takeout. We haven’t had takeout in something like 3 years but on Low Impact Week we got takeout in huge styrofoam containers! I gobbled up the food before thinking, “OMG! What have I done?”
And we needed to turn on the AC again last night. That’s TWICE this week.
All in all, though, we’ve accomplished the goal of raising our consciousness. Em even threw some praise in my direction over this experiment: “I appreciate what you’re doing!” So…yeah…life’s still good.
